Instagram Dogs – English Setters

I find that everyone is starting an Instagram page for their beloved pets. Well, to fit in, I started one as well. Okay, Okay… I wanted one for myself. Like everyone, I believe my dogs are the most beautiful and kind ones out there. They have the best and funniest personalities. Also, you can not forget their fluffy booties, as well. I like to say they are ‘bootiful’. My two dogs are English Setters. A more rare breed, not as common as a Laborador, Bulldog, Pug, Rottweiler, or Pitbull. While all of these breeds are wonderful, I am biased. If you have never met an English Setter, you are truly missing out. While they are considered hunting dogs, I find they are the best family dogs.
English Setters do need exercise. However, they love their naps, cuddles, and food (something I can relate to). They are my best friends. My dogs love bathroom trips, following me around the house, and helping me work. They know when any member of my family is in pain or not feeling well. In other words, they are intuitive dogs. English Setters are very aware they are a part of the family. Therefore, they may demand equal parts of the conversation, attention, and a spot near the dinner table. I have to be clear here, they most likely won’t beg for your food at the table, rather they want to be close to everyone. Granted, they are suckers for some fries. Setters listen to each conversation to see if you will talk about them. They want the gossip. While the American Kennel Club suggests brushing your English Setter once a week, I find once a month is plenty. Their hair is one of the softest I have ever felt. However, they shed A LOT. So prepare for the hair. English Setters are EASY to train. These dogs love… love. So when training them, a simple hug and ‘good boi’ goes farther than you think.
Additional to the ‘easy to train’, ‘best friend’, and ‘loving’ dogs they are, English Setters have the facial expression of any meme you can think of. My dogs, at any moment, will tell you just how they feel. This may be through an eye roll, sigh, a look of disgust, a moment of ‘oh no! are you crying?’, and the ‘pet me right now’ paw grab. I am surprised these dogs are not internet famous with their facial expressions. Whenever I have company over, I get compliments on how they act, care, and facial expressions. The company is always impressed by how my dogs react to different things going on. Sometimes it feels like they are in the conversation we are having.
Each English Setter I have had, love a good bush. As they are hunting dogs, they have a passion for finding rodents, birds, lizards, mice, and more. We have multiple bushes in our backyard. When we go outside to check on our dogs, we find their butts sticking out of a bush. A sight that gives a great chuckle. If you ever worry about bugs, rodents, or any other creepy crawling thing in your house, English Setters are for you. They will find any you may not see. They may even help you get them outside. WARNING: This is not a guarantee. One time we thought there may have been a mouse in our living room. Why? Because our dogs were sniffing and trying to find it. They had their tails up and their front paw bent. Once found, we had to discard it. However, I am grateful my dogs found it and we could get it outside where it belongs.
I am sharing this information (to the void, also called the internet) because I need to express my love for them more than I already do. These dogs are always here for me, no matter my mood or attitude. If I have a bad day they are right beside me. I could not thank my dogs enough for the entertainment, therapy, laughs, tears, and warmth.
