Instagram Dogs – English Setters

I find that everyone is starting an Instagram page for their beloved pets. Well, to fit in, I started one as well. Okay, Okay… I wanted one for myself. Like everyone, I believe my dogs are the most beautiful and kind ones out there. They have the best and funniest personalities. Also, you can not forget their fluffy booties, as well. I like to say they are ‘bootiful’. My two dogs are English Setters. A more rare breed, not as common as a Laborador, Bulldog, Pug, Rottweiler, or Pitbull. While all of these breeds are wonderful, I am biased. If you have never met an English Setter, you are truly missing out. While they are considered hunting dogs, I find they are the best family dogs.
English Setters do need exercise. However, they love their naps, cuddles, and food (something I can relate to). They are my best friends. My dogs love bathroom trips, following me around the house, and helping me work. They know when any member of my family is in pain or not feeling well. In other words, they are intuitive dogs. English Setters are very aware they are a part of the family. Therefore, they may demand equal parts of the conversation, attention, and a spot near the dinner table. I have to be clear here, they most likely won’t beg for your food at the table, rather they want to be close to everyone. Granted, they are suckers for some fries. Setters listen to each conversation to see if you will talk about them. They want the gossip. While the American Kennel Club suggests brushing your English Setter once a week, I find once a month is plenty. Their hair is one of the softest I have ever felt. However, they shed A LOT. So prepare for the hair. English Setters are EASY to train. These dogs love… love. So when training them, a simple hug and ‘good boi’ goes farther than you think.
Additional to the ‘easy to train’, ‘best friend’, and ‘loving’ dogs they are, English Setters have the facial expression of any meme you can think of. My dogs, at any moment, will tell you just how they feel. This may be through an eye roll, sigh, a look of disgust, a moment of ‘oh no! are you crying?’, and the ‘pet me right now’ paw grab. I am surprised these dogs are not internet famous with their facial expressions. Whenever I have company over, I get compliments on how they act, care, and facial expressions. The company is always impressed by how my dogs react to different things going on. Sometimes it feels like they are in the conversation we are having.
Each English Setter I have had, love a good bush. As they are hunting dogs, they have a passion for finding rodents, birds, lizards, mice, and more. We have multiple bushes in our backyard. When we go outside to check on our dogs, we find their butts sticking out of a bush. A sight that gives a great chuckle. If you ever worry about bugs, rodents, or any other creepy crawling thing in your house, English Setters are for you. They will find any you may not see. They may even help you get them outside. WARNING: This is not a guarantee. One time we thought there may have been a mouse in our living room. Why? Because our dogs were sniffing and trying to find it. They had their tails up and their front paw bent. Once found, we had to discard it. However, I am grateful my dogs found it and we could get it outside where it belongs.
I am sharing this information (to the void, also called the internet) because I need to express my love for them more than I already do. These dogs are always here for me, no matter my mood or attitude. If I have a bad day they are right beside me. I could not thank my dogs enough for the entertainment, therapy, laughs, tears, and warmth.

Decor, Decor, Decor. Valentine’s Day

I love decorating for each season, holiday, and occasion. I feel as decorating for each season lifts the spirits and changes up the scenery we stare at every day for hours in this pandemic life. While decorating for Christmas is my favorite, I want to touch on the upcoming holiday Valentine’s day. This holiday is quite controversial. Those who do not have a ‘bae’ feel left out. My mother taught me how Valentine’s day is not just for couples to celebrate their love for one another but also the love you have for anything. Love comes in all shapes and forms, not just romantics ones. Therefore, I decorate my house with hearts, red, pink, and anything I find cute (and on a budget of course).

Recently I love decorating the hearth above the fireplace. It is the location where most people spend the majority their time. Not to mention, having a fire just adds to the ambiance. I have also been looking into how to craft my decorations (DIY) that are muti-use. I do not have a lot of storage room and want to use each decor to its full potential.
One essential for decorations, in my eyes, are fairy lights (or small Christmas lights). I have a collection of both plug-in and battery-powered. I feel as this ‘soften’ light enlightens a room. These lights also can go between each season. Their multi-purpose is ultimately my saving grace. My favorite fairy lights are the wired plug-in lights. I can twist them around any garland I have (any Amazon search will do). Currently, I purchased the 6ft. Felt Rose Garland by Ashland® from Michaels. This simple garland does not scream hearts rather an arm’s open, welcoming, and caring environment. It is not overwhelming and looks great when the lights are off. I add the Assorted Tabletop Gnome with Hearts by Ashland®. I received the pink one. You should note the customer only gets one not two in the package. Then I looked around my parent’s house for additional decor. You can be surprised what your parents may have. I found an old teddy bear and some rustic hearts.

My other suggestion is to look at your cookie-cutter collection. You can wrap them around the fairy lights for an added touch. I found some heart cookie cutters to add at the ends of the lights. I reused red bows and berries from Christmas for the decorations near the main focal point (the painting). I made these bows for Christmas but love how I can re-use them for Valentine’s day. At the bottom of the fireplace are two red, old-fashioned lanterns. These lanterns add to the rustic vibes in the room. I also added another decor from Christmas time. I have a vase filled with white fluffy material and fake mixed berries coming out of it. For Valentine’s day, I added a heart. While it is small, it fits in well. Nothing is bulky or in the way. I was able to re-use four Christmas items (two bows, a vase with berries, and fairy lights). The only items I bought for this holiday were the Gnome and garland. Michaels ALWAYS has a sale. So for each season prep in advance to spend under $15 dollars like me!

Seven-Year Skin Journey…UGGHHH

Below I speak towards moments of my skin journey that made me realize I need to calm down and simplify my skin routine. I have started to wash my face ONLY twice a day (I know, DUHH). I found that Neutrogena is not always the solution. Hydrating my skin does not equal more pimples. Lastly, not touching my face can do wonders. While this is my journey, not all products mentioned will help everyone. The hardest lesson I had to learn was: Influencers and YouTubers do not know all and are not our dermatologists.

I have struggled with my acne-prone, combination skin since 2013. For the past seven years, I searched high and low for a miracle product to fix my acne issue. One positive part of the pandemic is, I learned what my skin requires; to calm the F* down! My skin wants simple products and less harsh items. I use to have a seven-step routine thinking this will work, “I know it will!” I would tell myself each morning. However, I refused to look at the list of ingredients and bought what influencers told me to. I am still on my skin journey. I have a long way to go as well.

In this pandemic, I have not put makeup on routinely and did not stress over every pimple that appeared. Rather, I have learned to care for my skin. I continue to try new products. I am on a journey to find a few skincare items that will work consistently. I want a routine I can stick to and one my wallet agrees to. Finding an affordable product that not only is made for sensitive skin but also lasts longer than one month is my ultimate goal. One holy grail item I highly recommend trying is the Cerave Moisturizing Cream. This lotion comes in multiple sizes. The largest size, 16 oz, lasts me roughly 9 months. A DREAM! I had to ease my skin onto this item. It is thicker and, therefore, I wanted my pores to not get clogged. After I apply a vitamin c serum (currently trying a few out) and Differin acne medicine (also currently in the testing phase) I apply this Cerave Cream on my face and neck. A little goes a long way.

I use to wash my face at least twice a day. On the days I had many pimples I would wash my face multiple times a day or cover it with thick concealer. After learning about skin, I have realized I need to slow WAY down. Over-washing is dangerous. I need to stop touching my face (also pandemic friendly..), wash less, have fewer products, and moisturize (a key to preventing scaring). When I was struggling with acne, I used all drying ingredients. My face was dying for anything hydrating. I now need to apologize to my skin: you deserved to be treated with kindness and not with harsh chemicals, I am sorry. One strange thing I had to learn is that salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are two ingredients to STAY AWAY from!! These chemicals dry out and are harmful to my skin. They created more acne, not less. For me, that is! Simple is key.

I am now on the hunt for a cleanser. A cleanser that is simple, sensitive-skin friendly, and not bank-breaking. I am trying to stay with Cerave products since they have a good reputation with dermatologists. They also have products that last a long time for a great price point. I am currently testing out Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser. I hope to add this to my regimen, fingers (and toes) all crossed.

Stressful? More like Stress-filled

As we all know, 2020 is a year we want to forget and move away from. This past tumultuous year has been filled with unemployment, political turmoil, and injustices. However, 2021 has not seemed to turn anything around. So what? How does one get through the time of social isolation, quarantine, and lack of events? What should we all be doing in this time? Well, for me, I think if you are able to get through each day without a melt-down, you are doing okay. We all need to escape from reality off and on. In order to get away from this historical time we are in, I have I regained my love for photography. Pictured I have a few favorites from this past year. My favorite photography includes dogs, flowers, mountains, trees, hummingbird… so I guess we can assume nature in general. What has been one of your go to escapes from this world we live in?

Revamping Old Clothes

I took an oversized ASOS dress that I purchased 5 years ago and made it into a crop tee. This top is see-through but I like it when you can see my bra through my shirts. I wear sports bras so I feel less revealing haha. I paired it with a fancy patterned coat from Zara Men’s section, black ripped Torrid jeans with sparkly tights under for warmth (Walmart), and Men’s Timberland boots. The jeans from Torrid need to have the waist taken in. I find that Torrid jeans never fit me right (I have a very small waist compared to my hips and thighs) despite being plus size (not worth the $$$ in my eyes).
